Outline
This article is for users whose FortiClient VPN application isn't working due to the macOS 11 Big Sur update.
Step 1 - Request Access
Before starting this process you'll need to contact Melinjo support for the Shared Secret password and Server IP address.
Step 2 - System Preferences
Open System Preferences, click on Networks, then add a new Interface by clicking the '+' button at the bottom left-hand corner of the window (see picture below).
As shown above select:
Interface > VPN
VPN Type > Cisco IPSec
Service Name > (this can be customized to anything) for example 'Remote Access'
Then click 'Create'
Step 3 - Configure VPN
In the interface you have just created fill in the details as listed below:
Server Address: enter the server IP address that was provided by Melinjo (as per step 1)
Account Name: this is your user name and needs to be identical to the first part of your email address (e.g. everything before the @ symbol - if your email address is joeblogs@school.co.nz you would use "joeblogs" for your account name.
Password: This is the usual password you use to log in to your computer.
Then click on the 'Authentication Settings' button.
Step 4 - Authentication Settings
In 'Shared-Secret' paste in the password that was provided by Melinjo (as per step 1)
Ignore Certificate
In Group Name enter "vpn" (see picture below)
Then click the OK button.
Then click Apply to confirm the settings (bottom right of the window)
You have now configured the VPN! 👍
Step 5 - Connect
Now that you have configured the Remote Access VPN all you need to do is click the 'Connect' button and you will now have access to all school resources as if you were located at the school.
(There should be a green symbol next to your 'Remote Access' interface indicating you are connected, as shown in the picture below)
